The official title is now Apprenticeship Standard For Digital Marketer.

These new Trailblazer Apprenticeships are drawn up by employers and other leaders in the field so the idea is that you really home in on the skills those people think you need to continue the progress of the field and also to ensure you achieve success in your role. Makes sense, doesn’t it.

During your Digital Marketing Apprenticeships you will learn skills such as:
  • Designing, building and implementing digital campaigns using a variety of online tools suıch as social media and email. If you are looking for social media Apprenticeships, this Apprenticeship standard could be ideal for you.
  • Acquiring customers through these online campaigns and building relationships with them so that they remain loyal to the company product or service.
  • Working as part of a team and reporting to the digital marketing manager or IT manager.
  • Working to instructions and taking sole responsibility for one aspect of a digital marketing campaign.
  • Researching and analysing data.
  • Evaluating the success of a marketing campaign.

The Apprenticeship Standard for Digital Marketer is a Level 3 Apprenticeship and will take around 18 months to complete. You will be doing marketing jobs such as digital marketing assistant or coordinator, social media executive or digital marketing technologist and other similar jobs.

Individual employers will have their own criteria for any previous qualifications or experience you need to undertake the Apprenticeship. This could be GCSEs, A-Levels, or a related Level 2 Apprenticeship. And, if you can prove your enthusiasm for social media and other online technology, all the better.

Depending on your particular role and the type of company you are kickstarting your digital marketing career with, you will achieve qualifications specific to your role. These qualifications are internationally recognised so you could even continue your digital marketing career abroad in the future if that’s the route you want to take.

One of the following professional qualifications:
  • MTA HTML5, CIW (Site Development Associate)
  • Google Squared, CIM Level 4 Award in Digital Marketing, Dot Native, CIW (Internet Business Associate)
  • Google Analytics IQ, CIM Level 4 Award in Digital Marketing, CIW Data Analytics, CIW Social Media, Dot Native, Google Squared
Two of the following knowledge modules:
  • Principles of Coding (Level 3 Digital Marketer Apprenticeships)
  • Marketing Principles (Level 3 Digital Marketer Apprenticeships)
  • Digital Marketing Business Principle (Level 3 Digital Marketer Apprenticeships)
  • Level 2 Maths & English (if this was not achieved in school)
The great thing about these Digital Marketing Apprenticeships is you will also bet professional recognition. You can apply to register with the Register for IT Technicians, you can become an affiliate professional member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and you can apply for Associate membership of the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT).

Further Career Development In Digital Marketing
Once you have completed Level 3 qualifications for the Apprenticeship Standard of Digital Marketer, it doesn’t have to stop there. You might want to progress to digital marketing manager jobs and other senior positions.

You could continue to develop your skills by doing higher level digital marketing qualifications - in the future, it could be possible to go up to Level 6 via the Apprenticeships route. Or you might even choose to do courses in your own time at local education centres and training centres.
