Royal Mail To Create 20,000 Christmas Jobs In 2017

Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide will create 20,000 temporary Christmas jobs in 2017 as the delivery firms gear up for another hectic holiday season.

Recruitment is already underway for the Royal Mail jobs and some Christmas vacancies start as early as October. A variety of shifts will be available, meaning that students should be able to apply for flexible roles and could put in extra hours over the Xmas break.

Christmas is always the busiest time of year for Royal Mail, but the rise in popularity of online shopping for Xmas gifts means the company needs to take on thousands of staff over the next few weeks, right through into the New Year.

Royal Mail will have 16,000 Christmas jobs up for grabs in England, 1,000 in Scotland, 500 in Northern Ireland and 300 in Wales; a total of 17,800 across the whole of the UK.

The temporary Christmas staff will work at over 1,400 delivery offices, mail centres, data centres and distribution centres in locations all over the country.

Meanwhile, Parcelforce Worldwide, the express parcels arm of the business, will have 2,100 temporary roles on offer, with 1,200 drivers and 900 sorting staff to be hired.

Sue Whalley, chief operations officer for Royal Mail, said: “We are continuing to make a substantial commitment in additional resources including the recruitment of thousands of temporary workers to handle the festive mailbag and the growing market of online Christmas shopping.”

“Christmas continues to be our busiest time of year. We plan all year round to help ensure we deliver the best possible service for UK consumers and businesses at Christmas,” added Ms Whalley.
