Job Description

North West Leicestershire District Council is looking to employ a Modern Apprentice within our Housing Asset Management Team to assist in carrying out carpentry and joinery work associated with the repairs, maintenance & adaptation of Council properties. You will learn to undertake all work to a competent recognised standard & current regulation, with minimal risk to Health & Safety of all those it may effect.



Training will be provided by Stephenson College working towards NVQ level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery Site



You must have the ability to man handle portable plant equipment & materials and to understand & interpret manufacturer’s installation instructions. You should be able to work with different access equipment and work at heights after training. The ability to problem solve and deal with difficult situations is also a requirement



You should be physically able to gain access and carry out work in difficult locations, willing and committed to undertake all training as required via the College and Council.



Initial assessments will be taken at the College.



 



Responsibilities will include:




  • Interpret information received from works orders, working drawings and/or verbal instructions by electronic and manual means.

  • Calculate appropriate quantities of materials necessary to complete required tasks.

  • Requisition materials from designated suppliers and assist in maintaining vehicle stocks as appropriate by electronic and manual means.

  • To work towards carrying out the full range of carpentry and joinery duties including repairs and maintenance, design, installation, commissioning and certification to current building regulations and best practice.

  • Liaise with other trades as necessary.

  • Notify the Chargehand of any necessary major variations from the work as stated on the works order.

  • Maintain safe methods of work at all times and understand the risk assessment process and method statement prior to works commencing.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment for the task.

  • Report all accidents and/or hazardous occurrences to the Chargehand.

  • Report all faulty plant or equipment to the Chargehand.

  • Submit a weekly timesheet, accompanied by appropriate work orders with sufficient information in regard to job duration and tasks completed both electronically and manually.

  • To act at all times in an appropriate manner as an ambassador for the Council.

  • To participate in the Council’s Best Employee Experience (BEE) Scheme that includes the Reflections appraisal review including training and development needs.

  • To attend College as required by the terms of the Apprenticeship and to successfully complete relevant training courses and examinations as and when required.

  • To attend regular review meetings with the College and/or Employer as required.

  • To work towards undertaking activities of a multi task nature, in line with the Council’s modern workforce agreement, at an appropriate time and upon completion of relevant training.

  • To adopt appropriate shift patterns as specified.

  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks appropriate to the grading of the post.


Personal Qualities :

  • You should be able to work with different access equipment and work at heights after training.



Skills Required :

Future Prospects : Building Maintenance Operations qualification could follow on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
