Job Description

The Vernon is a provider of mortgage and savings products offering the people of the Stockport area a wider choice. An exciting opportunity has arisen to find out more about financial services, mortgages, marketing and customer services within a thriving environment.



The Society offers a refreshing alternative to the banks and people are important to us (both customers and staff). We pride ourselves on delivering a high level of personal customer service and our staff regularly impress our customers by going the ‘extra mile’. We would like to appoint 2 apprentices to get to know the different areas of the business over a 12 month period to allow both the Society and the apprentice to see where their strengths and aptitudes lie. Subject to satisfactory performance in the initial role we have the ambition that the apprenticeship should provide a pathway for career development.

As an interesting and exciting financial services provider, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of departments and learn about Mortgages, Finance, Customer Service etc:

 




  • Support Services – this is the communications hub of the business and provides support to all departments and branches. There will be a wide range of administration tasks including receiving telephone calls and incoming and outgoing post, collating of communication packs to board and senior management as well as supporting the HR & Training function.

  • Branches – Here you’ll deal directly with our most valued asset – our customers. You will process basic transactions on a day to day basis, assist in opening of accounts, balancing tills and check and scan documents. Most importantly you will understand the importance of a customer leaving happy!

  • Investment department – You will get an understanding of the central administration requirement for our savings customers including ISA transfers, bond maturities and the importance of checking work is accurate.

  • Marketing and PR department – You will get to understand all aspects of the marketing function, including digital and printed media. Under supervision you will carry out key tasks including design, research, campaign planning and website maintenance.

  • Mortgage department – You will input customer details onto the system, carry out identification checks, instruct valuations for properties and assist with the filing and scanning of documents

  • Finance – observe and understand basic transactions and develop an overview of the financial aspects of the business

  • IT – Monitor outstanding helpdesk calls, plan and carry out ad-hoc training to small groups, testing of new software releases

  • Compliance – regulations in the financial services industry have become more demanding over recent years and here you will get an understanding of why and what is required. You will help the team with their day to day work

  • Within all departments, you will be assisting the Society with other administrative tasks as required which will include Scanning / Faxing / Photocopying / Emailing/ Answering calls.

Future Prospects : Depending on the strengths, desires and aptitude of the candidate there are opportunities to move into different areas of the Society. Career opportunities include (but are not restricted to) customer facing roles, administration, finance, IT and marketing There are a number of qualification routes to pursue depending on the career path chosen including the mortgage advice qualification.
