Job Description

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Through work experience, studying, coaching, training and development (both practical and vocational) complete a course of study and obtain work related professional qualifications ensuring they are able to carry out the role of Printer safely, competently and effectively.

It is a requirement of the scheme that all Apprentices scheme achieve an appropriate NVQ Level 3 in Offset Lithographic Printing.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



Working under supervision to assist qualified Printers in the following duties:




  • Apply the full range of acquired Printing skills and knowledge to set up, operate and maintain all manufacturing plant as appropriate to the Apprenticeship.

  • To prepare, run and assist in the maintenance of high speed printing equipment

  • Movement of materials both manually and with appropriate lifting aids.

  • Undertake Machine Tool Training during the course of the Apprenticeship and ensuring site cleanliness during and upon completion of work.

  • Learn and undertake associated skills to complement business requirements.

  • Carry out any other appropriate task as instructed by a supervisor or manager.

  • Comply with health and safety requirements, safety legislation and understand the effects of the legislation with regards to the work environment and particular vocation.

  • Accurately and promptly maintain all documentation as required by Company procedures.

  • To be involved in continuous improvement projects

  • The ability to work to very fine tolerances as part of the line team



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:




  • To comply with all Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures

  • To understand and comply with all other Company policies and procedures

  • To competently and efficiently undertake a full range of printing duties and tasks with such training and support as is appropriate.

  • To attend college and complete course work on time and to a high standard

  • To produce, maintain and be responsible for content, accuracy and sign off of log books

  • To progressively take on additional responsibility over the term of the Apprenticeship commensurate with the expected level of skills acquisition and personal development.

  • To understand and complete all work related documentation accurately and on time

  • To carry out work in a safe and diligent manner

  • To attend and fully participate regular training and development reviews with Training & Human Resources Management, Mentor and College representatives.

  • To undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required


Personal Qualities :

  • You must be self-driven and have an enthusiastic approach to your work with a desire to succeed in Print Engineering.

  • Good level of maturity and common sense

  • Good Time keeping and attendance is essential



Skills Required :

  • Able to demonstrate logical thinking and fault finding

  • Ability to solve problems

  • Ability to use initiative when working alone, within given instructions

  • Ability to prioritise and work to strict deadlines

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Accuracy

  • Customer focused approach
