Job Description

The successful applicant will be working four days a week with the employer and having regular on site observations with an NVQ assessor to complete the NVQ part of the qualification. You must work hard whilst on site and follow Health and Safety regulations which includes wearing the correct PPE at all times ( this will be supplied by Skills Group or the employer). You may also have to complete functional skills if required during the Apprenticeship. Your main duties will be:



Shadowing the employer to learn how to Brick lay and also including labouring duties and general maintenance work.



This will include:




  • Tyding the work area.

  • Applying and sealing foundations with materials that are damp-resistant.

  • Spreading and removing excess mortar.

  • Checking brick alignments.

  • Applying bricks, blocks and pavers in lanes or decorate patterns or designs.

  • In addition, you will be using brick-cutting machines to cut and shape bricks and building arches, brick structures and any additional tasks required.



As an apprentice you will be expected to work long and busy hours on a small construction site.


Personal Qualities :

The successful applicant will need to be reliable and hard working. You will need good time keeping skills with a willingness to learn the trade and enthusiasm towards bricklaying.



Skills Required :

You will need good time management skills and excellent coordination. A positive attitude towards the trade is required at all times.



Future Prospects : The apprentice if successful will have the opportunity to progress on to the NVQ Level 3 in Trowel Occupation with the employer. The level 2 will last for 15 months and for the level 3 this will last for 12 months.
