Job Description

An apprenticeship with us will offer you the chance to earn while you learn. You will work in an Early Years setting, learning skills and knowledge which are improved by practical experience whilst getting paid for it. 



Purpose of the job:




  • To work as part of a team in order to provide a safe environment in which all children and young people can learn and develop

  • To be trained to become a professionally competent early years worker



Key areas:




  • To work with young children up to the age of 5

  • To commit to the full duration of the apprenticeship programme

  • To attend all tutored training dates as specified by Central Bedfordshire Academy of Social Work and Early Intervention (The Academy)  

  • To attend additional  training courses as specified by The Academy

  • To submit all assignments in accordance with submission deadlines

  • To work as part of a team

  • To communicate effectively and honestly with your mentor, manager, assessor and course tutors



Responsible to:




  • Employer – mentor and manager

  • Training provider – assessors and trainers



Duties and responsibilities:




  • To fully comply with the terms and conditions as stipulated in your employment contract

  • To attend tutored training and complete online training

  • To complete all assignments set within specified deadlines

  • under supervision provide all aspects of care for children including meeting their individual personal and emotional and developmental needs

  • To be aware of your employer’s policies  and procedures, including confidentiality and safeguarding



Team work:




  • To support your colleagues in the daily running of the setting

  • To support your peers in completing the apprenticeship programme i.e. by arriving to training on time and contributing to a positive a friendly learning environment

  • Good organisational and planning skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Punctual

  • Patience

  • Reliable

  • Trustworthy



Skills Required :

  • Enthusiasm for working with young children

  • An interest in the care, learning and development of young children

  • A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities



Future Prospects : Achievement of the Advanced Apprenticeship will enable apprentices to access higher level jobs within the sector, for example: Nursery Supervisor, Nursery Manager, Pre-school Manager/Co-ordinator

There is also opportunity for apprentices to go on to further study at higher levels:
• Early Years Initial Teacher Status (Graduate level)
• Foundation Degrees in Early Years
• Other Graduate level qualifications
