Job Description

This is an opportunity to join The Star Inn in St Erth as an Apprentice Chef. You will begin by learning all the Health & Safety requirements of the role, as well as all the cleaning procedures, how we organise the kitchen and then moving on to basic ingredient prepping.

As your skills develop you will work under our Head Chef helping to prepare our delicious snacks and meals throughout the day from our extensive menu. In the future you will learn how to close down and open up service and all the different sections of the kitchen. This is a great position for the right candidate to develop their career, learn lots of specialist skills and gain an apprenticeship qualification.

Personal Qualities :

Our ideal apprentice has drive and ambition to succeed in a kitchen environment. You are able to be calm under pressure as we can get very busy at times, but you get lots of satisfaction from providing fantastic food and doing a job well done. You are organised so we know you will be confident at prioritising your workload , and you are also a great team player with a sense of humour in this lively environment.

Once you have received the necessary training you are able to work alone without assistance as you have a proactive approach and are able to use your own initiative. You always approach problems with a positive attitude and look for ways to solve them, rather than see obstacles. We can rely on you to always arrive at work on time with the right attitude to work hard, listen well and complete all tasks that are asked of you quickly and efficiently. You work hard because you want to progress within the team and build a great career for yourself.

Skills Required :

Our ideal apprentice has great communication skills so that you are able to deal with your colleagues and customers in a polite and friendly manner. You keenly ask questions, share ideas and take feedback on your performance, as you understand this will improve your work.

You also have good organisational skills so you are always on time, keep your work areas tidy and you can prioritise your workload.

Future Prospects : For the right candidate, this could become a permanent position with ongoing training and development to gain an overall knowledge and understanding of the business.
