Job Description

No experience is necessary if you’re joining us as an Apprentice Carer as you will be fully trained and supported through our apprenticeship program whilst working towards a vocational qualification in Health & Social Care. 



Reporting to: Qualified Nursing Staff (Nursing Home) Deputy Home Manager / Nursing Assistant or Senior Carer (Residential Home) 



Purpose of Role: To learn on-the job whilst working towards achieving a recognised qualification in Health and Social Care by assisting in the provision of the kindest care. Working as part of ‘One team’ to achieve required standards. 



Daily duties 



Work towards a vocational qualification in Health & Social Care. Once proven to be competent in key skills, continue learning whilst:-




  • Assisting Residents in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional), providing attention when needed, whilst ensuring Residents retain their comfort and dignity.

  • Assisting Residents who have limited mobility, or physical/learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided, to ensure that they safely achieve their personal goals.

  • Closely monitor Residents who may be confused and / or who may demonstrate behaviour that challenges to ensure the safety and welfare of themselves and others.

  • Assist in the delivery of care for Residents who are dying or with a progressive illness to ensure a dignified End of Life. Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.

  • Answer Nurse ‘Call System’, providing and / or obtaining assistance as required.

  • Make and change beds and ensure that rooms are clean and tidy, and any bedroom equipment is kept clean to ensure a homely environment for the Resident.

  • Answer the door and telephone appropriately, respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly to ensure a high standard of customer care.

  • Ensure the Care Home’s resources are used appropriately to minimise waste and reduce risk. Accurately document care given and report concerns as necessary

  • Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, Colleague, self or another. 

  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the Care Home’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures



In accordance with the Care Standards Act 2000, it is not permissible for Colleagues under the age of 18 years to provide personal care to Residents. Applicants must be 18+

  • Willing to take time to understand the needs of Residents so that you can attend to all aspects of the care needs.
