Job Description

The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:




  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way

  • Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

  • Fax and photocopy as requested

  • Scanning (electronic filing of patient correspondence)

  • Be able to cover all reception duties as necessary

  • To communicate and liaise effectively with all patients, colleagues and external organisations

  • Support front facing reception areas (when requested) to meet and greet patients, members of the general public, colleagues in a friendly, professional and effective manner

  • Be responsible for timely opening of post received into the Practice

  • Provide a comprehensive reception cover (when requested) by booking and amending appointments, distributing prescriptions and documenting items on the Patient Management System

  • Use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Email, Internet, and Access) and other computer applications (i.e. EMIS) as necessary and appropriate for the job role

  • To undertake any mandatory training required i.e. Information Governance, Fire training, Health & Safety

  • The ability to deal with people from varying backgrounds



Future Prospects : It is hoped that the successful applicant will continue to work on a permanent basis with Sutton Hill Medical Practice following completion of the apprenticeship (this will be dependent upon performance throughout the duration of the apprenticeship programme).

If it transpires that continued employment with Sutton Hill Medical Practice is not the preferred option, the training, experience and qualifications gained throughout the apprenticeship will stand the apprentice in very good stead to gain future employment.
