Job Description

The HPC’s key responsibility is the overall welfare of the students ensuring they are safe, secure, happy and respect other students, staff and the facilities. The role is a Senior Management position therefore the HPC is expected to fulfil a demanding workload.

Reports to: Centre Director (CD). Location: 16 centres across the UK.

Managing: Welfare Leaders & International students.

Hours:

➢ Up to 48 hours per week, on average.

➢ Evening and weekend work required.

➢ Some weeks you may be required to work in excess of 48 hours. You will therefore be asked to ‘opt out’ of the 48-hour Working Time Directive.

Contract and remuneration:

➢ 4 week contract with a potential extension.

➢ Full board and accommodation provided free of charge.

Ardmore requirements for all employees

➢ Eligible to live and work in the UK and 18 or over.

➢ Have a suitable police check/ enhanced DBS (Ardmore can assist with this).

➢ High level of professional conduct and smart appearance.

➢ Commitment to safeguarding students at all times.

➢ Excellent communication skills and proficient in English language.

Role Specific Specification

Essential:
➢ Sensitivity to other cultures and diversity.

➢ Previous experience working with children/teenagers and in a team.

➢ Safeguarding Level 2 trained.

➢ Flexible approach to the working day and ability to ‘think on your feet’.

➢ Ability to create and sustain working relationships with children key clients.

➢ Strong organisational and administrative skills.

➢ Enthusiasm and ability to motivate a team of welfare staff and students.

Desirable:
➢ Proven leadership skills.

➢ Experience of counselling or mentoring young people.

➢ Hold a valid First Aid Certificate, Lifeguard or sports coaching qualification.

➢ Have experience of working with students ages 9 – 17.

➢ Experience of managing teams in summer school environment.

Job tasks:

Student Welfare

➢ Ensure that all staff are allocated bedrooms spread around the boarding houses and plan ahead with room allocations for students for the duration of the course.

➢ Act as the Safeguarding DSP in centre in the absence of the CD.

➢ Maintain the overall welfare of all of the students through excellent levels of provision for every student.

➢ Manage a team of Senior Welfare Leaders (SWLs) and Welfare Leaders (WLs) who have the responsibility for the routine pastoral care and welfare of the students at all times.

➢ Ensure fire and safety procedures are displayed and adhered to, including fire drills within 48 hours of arrival and accommodation checks.

➢ Run a Welfare Desk to provide information to students, Group Leaders and staff to ensure all needs and concerns are being addressed.

➢ Carry out night duty on a rota basis (at least four nights per week) and supervise other staff on duty making sure that all buildings are locked, secure and all students are safely in their rooms.

➢ Create rotas to ensure effective supervision of students throughout the day (particularly individuals), assisting with these welfare duties including meal supervision and bedtime supervision.

➢ Deal quickly and efficiently with any complaints or issues relating to the accommodation and welfare of the students.

➢ Report maintenance issues to staff and ensure the cleanliness of the residence is maintained to the standards of the school.

➢ Ensure that Ardmore Language School’s Health and Safety policies are implemented and adhered to at all times.
