Job Description

Pear Tree Poultry in Claughton-on-Brock near Preston are looking to recruit an Animal Care Apprentice to assist in the day-to-day running of their busy poultry business. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in poultry.



The role is varied and duties would include:




  • Providing advice to customers on the site on poultry matters and associated products

  • Selling livestock and all poultry products from the shop and sales pens

  • Taking and confirming advance bookings for our boarding ‘hennels’, and servicing the drop-off and collection of the birds

  • Taking and confirming advance bookings for our incubation hire service; preparing hatching kit and providing advice to customers on collection

  • Providing feed and water for all livestock and cleaning hens and coops to maintain a high standard of animal care, and assisting with any health treatment



The ideal candidate would be local to the area, keen to learn, hardworking, reliable and have either a Level 2 in Animal Care or significant Animal Care experience.



You will work approximately 30 hours per week between 9.30am (earliest start) and 5pm (latest finish), Monday to Friday with some weekend work required. Times may vary depending on the season but this will be discussed at interview. You will be allowed 1 day per week for study on site.



You will be paid national minimum wage for age per hour in the first year of the apprenticeship. This will be reviewed throughout the programme and may increase depending on performance and progression.



Training will be provided by Myerscough College towards the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Animal Care, through a Work-based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace.
